In early July, we have a small team embarking on a journey to Cape Town, South Africa, with the purpose of supporting our global partner, Living Hope.

Our team will focus on supporting and engaging children in Living Hope's Holiday Club, as well as individuals in the Substance Abuse Treatment program. Through our efforts, we aim to help these individuals acquire crucial life skills and foster positive self-images.

This is my second mission trip to Living Hope in Capetown, South Africa,. Living Hope is a mission whose success comes from creative leadership and teamwork in faithful service to the Lord. I am looking forward to working alongside their teams for learning and inspiration to apply to our home mission of Chicago Hope.  To God be the glory!

I was blessed to have traveled to Africa in 2019. Our goal was to support our brothers and sisters in Christ in Nairobi and Mathare through sports and children's ministry. During my time there, God showed me the beauty of community living and the strength of the people there that have learned to live on very little provision, income and resources. I had never seen poverty on such a level while observing the joy and love people had for each other and the Lord. My prayer is that we can support the team in South Africa as God leads us and share the experience with our Armitage family upon our return.

Since childhood, my family and church community have shown me God's love, leading me to accept Jesus as my savior at a young age. Despite my past mistakes, God's mercy prevented me from running away, allowing me to find redemption. During my visit to my family in the Philippines last year, I witnessed firsthand their devotion to Jesus, despite having very little compared to me. They live for Him instead of themselves. His reminder of love fuels my desire to reciprocate, confirming His calling for me to serve this summer. Above all else, I hope and pray that through this trip our team is able to come alongside Living Hope to bless the lives of those we see in Africa, and that our Lord will be glorified through it.

Working in nonprofits, particularly with underserved communities, has shown me why God placed me in those spaces. His protection and blessings have been abundant, and I consider it a privilege to connect with people from diverse backgrounds. I pray that God continues to guide and empower us as we fulfill Living Hope's incredible mission, ministering to those they diligently serve. May we remind them of their beauty and the craftsmanship of God's hand, while also gaining a deeper understanding of how the body of Christ is actively moving around the world.
